More than Editing—Mentoring for Writers Who Want to Grow

Hi, I’m Cassie Armstrong—writing coach, book editor, and owner of MorningStar Editing LLC. I help writers clearly understand their work and shape books with intention, clarity, and respect for the reader. I guide writers toward clarity, confidence, and completion.

My background as a teacher and mentor shapes everything I do. I’ve worked with writers at all stages—from first-time authors unsure of where to begin to experienced writers preparing manuscripts for publication. Over the years, I’ve learned that writers don’t just need corrections. They need guidance, encouragement, and honest, skill-building feedback. That’s where mentoring makes the difference.

Mentoring Philosophy

Editing should strengthen the writer, not just the manuscript.
My role is not to rewrite your voice—it’s to help you refine it.

Through detailed feedback, practical suggestions, and collaborative coaching conversations, I help authors:

  • Understand why revisions matter

  • Recognize patterns in their writing

  • Build sustainable writing habits

  • Develop confidence in their decisions

With years of experience in teaching, coaching, and editorial work, I bring both instructional depth and industry awareness to every project. My clients value not only my technical expertise, but the clarity, encouragement, and accountability I provide throughout the writing process.

When our work is finished, you’ll walk away not only with a stronger manuscript, but as a stronger writer.

Who I Work With

I work with authors to create clear, engaging, publish-ready books that truly serve their audience. From children’s literature to craft and how-to books to cookbooks meant to be used and loved, I partner with career-focused writers who care deeply about their work and want their books to stand out.

I’ve had the privilege of editing two award-winning trade books, Daisy Cakes by Kim Daisy and South by Wendy Nilsen Pollitzer, and I bring those lessons to every manuscript I work on. My focus is helping you see what’s working, what could be stronger, and—just as importantly—why those changes matter.

Books aren’t finished just because they’ve been revised; they’re finished when they clearly communicate to the right audience. I approach every manuscript with care, honesty, and respect, honoring your voice while guiding you toward a book you can share with confidence.

Editing Support By Genre

Children’s Books
I help authors refine pacing, language, and narrative clarity so stories connect with young readers and hold their attention from beginning to end.

Cookbooks
I focus on structure, accuracy, and usability so recipes are easy to follow, consistent, and reliable for real-world use.

Craft and How-To Books
I help authors strengthen step-by-step instructions so projects are clear, repeatable, and accessible for readers at all skill levels.

Your Growth Matters

When you work with me, you’re not just getting an editor—you’re gaining a coach who helps you grow as a writer. Together, we’ll strengthen your manuscript and your craft, building skills that carry into future projects. Every book is different, and I tailor my recommendations to your manuscript, goals, and publishing path.

Not sure what kind of editing or coaching your project needs? I’ll help you determine the right path forward—so you can move ahead with clarity and confidence.

Let’s talk about your manuscript—and your growth as a writer.

Warmly,
Cassie Armstrong
